Remedies for Poison Oak Ivy Rash

What the settlers did have access to was salt. You can apply a salt paste (mix salt and water to form a paste), and spread on your poison oak ivy rash, rubbing it slightly. Allow to dry, then brush away the salt. This is reported to help with the itching and also helps dry up the blisters. Do this salt paste remedy two to three times a day.
Another very effective poison oak ivy remedy is to rub the rash and blisters with the inside of a banana peel. Do this two to three times a day. The itching should stop quickly and the rash may clear up within two to three days.
A widely accepted poison oak ivy remedy is to use the stems of Jewel Weed by breaking off the plant and rubbing the open stem over the skin rash. Others boil the leaves and soak a cloth in the concoction, then lay the cloth on their affected area. Jewel Weed is supposed to neutralize the poison of the urushiol oil. An alcohol rub has been reported to stop the itching and help dry up the poison oak ivy blisters quickly — although it can sting quite a bit.
Hit the Beach when you have a poison oak ivy rash outbreak. People have reported that when they go to the beach and soak in the ocean for 15 to 30 minutes, then lie out in the warm sun, their rash stops itching and clears up faster.
