Cure for Poison Oak Ivy Rash
There are very few toxic plant reaction “cures.” Most of the treatments available help with the extensive itching so that the rash can run it’s course, yet not bother you as much. There are a few poison oak ivy “cures” that people claim helps their rash clear up within 24 to 48 hours. We will discuss several below:
- You can apply a salt paste (mix salt and water to form a paste), and spread on your poison oak ivy rash, rubbing it slightly. Allow to dry, then brush away the salt. This is reported to help with the itching and also helps dry up the blisters within a few days. Do this salt paste remedy two to three times a day. Your rash may clear up within two days.
- Rub the rash and blisters with the inside of a banana peel. Do this two to three times a day. The itching should stop quickly and the rash may clear up within two to three days.
- A widely accepted poison oak ivy “cure” is to use the stems of Jewel Weed by breaking off the plant and rubbing the open stem over the skin rash. Others boil the leaves and soak a cloth in the concoction, then lay the cloth on their affected area. Jewel Weed is supposed to neutralize the poison of the urushiol oil. - An alcohol rub has been reported to stop the itching and help dry up the poison oak ivy blisters quickly, within a day or two — although it can sting quite a bit.
- Take a break and go to the beach when you have a poison oak ivy rash outbreak. People have reported that when they go to the beach and soak in the ocean for 15 to 30 minutes, then lie out in the warm sun, their rash stops itching and clears up fast.
- Swimming in a “very chlorinated” pool, one that has been “shocked” recently, has been widely reported to completely clearup poison oak or poison ivy rash almost overnight. The combination of the cool water and chlorine may be attributed to the fast relief of the poison oak ivy rash itch, as well as the drying up of the blisters.
- Dab chlorine bleach on the poison oak ivy rash and blisters. It is reported as being very effective in stopping the itch and clearing up the rash almost overnight. Many also report intense pain while dabbing the bleach over open blisters though. You may wish to use the Swimming Pool remedy for poison oak ivy treatment instead. As an alternative, you may wish to us 1 part chlorine bleach to 3 parts water for the “dabbing.”
